Running Head: SIMPLE CHOICES AMONG ACSMS Simple Choices among Aggregate-Level Conditional Status Metrics: From Median Student Growth Percentiles to Value-Added Models

چکیده
Aggregate-Level Conditional Status Metrics (ACSMs) describe the status of a group by referencing current performance to expectations given past scores. This paper focuses on seven ACSMs that condition only on past scores, including median Student Growth Percentiles (Betebenner, 2009), aggregated Percentile Ranks of Residuals (Castellano & Ho, 2012) and covariate-adjustment “value-added” models (e.g., McCaffrey et al., 2004). The authors define “simple” choices among these ACSMs (e.g., between meanand median-based aggregation functions, or between fixed and random effects). They evaluate the impact of these choices upon three practical factors: school rankings, robustness across inclusion of prior-year data, and invariance to nonlinear scale transformations. Findings include expressions of practical differences between ACSMs and suggest considerable advantages of mean-based over medianbased metrics.

Practical Differences among Aggregate-Level Conditional Status Metrics: From Median Student Growth Percentiles to Value-Added Models
Aggregate-Level Conditional Status Metrics (ACSMs) describe the status of a group by referencing current performance to expectations given past scores. This paper provides a framework for these metrics, classifying them by aggregation function (mean or median), regression approach (linear mean, nonlinear quantile), and the scale supporting interpretations (percentile rank, score scale), among o...
متن کاملThe Impact of Food Stamp Program on Relative Food Consumption and Food Choices
I n this paper, the effects of the Food Stamp (FS) Program (now referred to as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-SNAP) on individuals’ food choices are evaluated. In other words, I examine how households' food choice or relative food consumption is changed by FS participation. For this purpose six food groups are created using 2016 Consumer Expenditure Diary Surv...
متن کاملFinancial Risk Modeling with Markova Chain
Investors use different approaches to select optimal portfolio. so, Optimal investment choices according to return can be interpreted in different models. The traditional approach to allocate portfolio selection called a mean - variance explains. Another approach is Markov chain. Markov chain is a random process without memory. This means that the conditional probability distribution of the nex...
متن کاملRunning head: HEURISTICS EXPLAIN INTERTEMPORAL CHOICE 1 Money Earlier or Later? Simple Heuristics Explain Intertemporal Choices Better than Delay Discounting1
Heuristic models have been proposed for many domains of choice. We compare heuristic models of intertemporal choice, which can account for many of the known intertemporal choice anomalies, to discounting models. We conduct an out-of-sample, cross-validated comparison of intertemporal choice models. Heuristic models outperform traditional utility discounting models, including models of exponenti...
متن کاملProbabilistic Choice Models
This chapter examines different models commonly used to model probabilistic choice, such as eg the choice of one type of transportation from among many choices available to the consumer. Section 1 discusses derivation and limitations of conditional logit models. Section 2 discusses probit models and Section 3 discusses the nested logit (generalized extreme value models), which address some of t...
